Forty major paintings by Georges de La Tour (1593–1652), one of the greatest and most original French painters of the 17th century, and by his contemporaries Caravaggio, Jacques Bellange, Simon Vouet, Hendrick Terbruggen, and others were brought together from public and private collections in Europe and the United States. The works were selected and installed to illustrate the place and meaning of La Tour’s art in the context of early 17th-century culture. La Tour’s paintings are among the most compelling masterpieces of the 17th century.
