Behzod Abduraimov, piano

Unite charisma with “fingers that seem as though they were made to create rainbows” (Los Angeles Times) and you’ve got Behzod Abduraimov. A former student of Cliburn winner Stanislav Ioudenitch, the in-demand touring artist has performed in the world’s music capitals and with conductors such as James Gaffigan, Vladimir Ashkenazy, and Valery Gergiev—and now makes his Cliburn concerts debut.

Brentano String Quartet and Haochen Zhang, piano

Performing since 1992, the Brentano String Quartet specializes in “exemplary performances and startling music revelations” (The Guardian, London). The gold medalist of the 2009 Van Cliburn International Competition, Chinese pianist Haochen Zhang has sold out tours of China, appeared with luminary conductors like Valery Gergiev and the late Lorin Maazel, and captivated audiences with a “combination of enchanting, sensitive lyricism and hypnotizing forcefulness” (The Jerusalem Post).

Third-prize winner at the 2013 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, Sean Chen “has an exceptional ability to connect with an audience combined with an easy virtuosity” (Huffington Post), making it fitting that the pianist  is performing the first recital in the Cliburn’s new Virtuosos series.
