Wednesday, December 4, 2013 - 12:30 PM
Herring will discuss the Kimbell’s recently acquired Maya censer stands, which are currently on view in the Museum’s newly opened Piano Pavilion. Masterfully sculpted, these monumental works of ceramic art are elaborately adorned with symbolic imagery, including the heads of deities such as the Jaguar God of the Underworld. They will be considered in relation to the ancient Maya dynastic rulers who patronized these artistic creations and the cityscapes in which they were once set.
Free; no reservations required. Seating is limited.
