This fully illustrated catalogue accompanies the first exhibition of the floral art of Pierre Joseph Redouté to be featured in the United States. Hailed as the “Raphael of flowers" by nineteenth-century writers, Redouté is unquestionably the best-known botanical artist of any era. His greatest works are his carefully observed and supremely delicate watercolors on vellum and parchment, but he also painted in oils and illustrated more than 50 botanical books with color prints. This stunning catalogue includes contributions by scholars Peter Sutton, Marianne Roland Michel, and Carolyn Rose Rebbert.
