Jacopo Bassano’s innovative compositions, bold use of light and color, and daring iconographical solutions all helped to earn him fame equal in his time to that of Titian, Tintoretto, and Veronese. Of particular importance was his introduction of the elements of everyday life into traditional religious subjects. This sixteenth-century Venetian painter had an impact on the subsequent development of painting throughout Europe.
